Spokane’s R & R Custom Colorlab grew graduation orders during pandemic
Erin Cramer became the owner of R & R Custom Colorlab three months before the stay-home order, and she’s convinced if she can get through this year, she can get through anything.
Cramer still was able to offer online ordering for delivery or curbside pickup during the stay-home order, and now that Spokane is in Phase 2 of Washington’s reopening plan, customers can walk right in.
R & R, 2929 N. Monroe St., has been in business for 10 years and has a loyal customer base.
“We started getting phone calls from customers saying, ‘We want to help you, what can we do? Are you still printing? Can we send something in and help you through?’” Cramer said.
Customers also offered Cramer ideas for new products – and one of the ideas was personal for Cramer. Cramer’s daughter is a senior in high school, so she decided to start offering yard signs for high school graduates, customized with name and senior picture.
“We had to just sit back and ask, ‘What can we do to help?’” said Cramer, who also made a banner for a high school. “And that’s where we came up with those.”
When the stay-home order went into effect, Cramer had to let go of her employees, but she’s brought them back, and customers have been sending in a steady stream of requests.
“We have a lot of people that are still doing projects in which they’re stuck at home,” Cramer said. “So they’re going through all their old photographs, and we’re scanning and restoring those old photos.”
Cramer had one photo assignment that was distinctly COVID-era.
“We do see some good humor pictures where we recently printed some senior photos for a girl and in her photo she had on her facemask, a couple packages of Lysol and some rolls of toilet paper,” Cramer said. “She was able to find the humor in that.”
