KENNEWICK – Brayden Crampton’s deflection goal tied the game with 49 seconds left but the Spokane Chiefs fell to the Tri-City Americans 5-4 after a shootout in a Western Hockey League game at Toyota Center on Friday.

After losing Saturday in overtime, the Spokane Chiefs wanted to bounce back with a good effort playing a rare Tuesday night game at home. The Wenatchee Wild – currently outside the Western Hockey League playoff picture – gave the Chiefs more resistance than they might have expected – or wanted. 

The shorthanded Spokane Chiefs could have easily quit, falling behind by three goals late in the second period on Saturday. But with their Western Hockey League-leading offense, they’re never really out of a game.

KENT, Wash. – Berkly Catton has missed too many Western Hockey League games this season – first due to the Seattle Kraken’s training camp, then in service to the Canada national team at the World Junior Championships – to reach the 54 goals he scored last season.

The Spokane Chiefs have run a gamut during their season-long five-game homestand, facing five teams in first or second place in their respective divisions over the past two weeks at the Arena – with mixed results.

For much of Friday's game, the Spokane Chiefs defense – and notably goaltender Dawson Cowan – had one of their better performances of the season.

The Spokane Chiefs don't have to catch the Everett Silvertips, who occupy the top spot in the U.S. Division and the Western Conference of the Western Hockey League, in order to achieve their ultimate goal this season.

Over the past few seasons, every move Spokane Chiefs general manager Matt Bardsley has made has been in preparation for acquiring high-scoring winger Andrew Cristall – if not Cristall himself, then someone of that caliber.
