After 12 years of sponsoring bills to protect the Boulder-White Clouds wilderness, Congressman Mike Simpson succeeded with the "Elvis version" -- you know, "It's now or never." The bill sailed through Congress and is expected to be signed soon by President Barack Obama, who threatened to apply monument designation to the area.
The daily blog roundup begins with my hard-working Boise colleague, Betsy Russell, wind-surfing on the Columbia River. Color me green with envy. Not that I would wind surf. But that Betsy seems to be having a ball while I'm working for the man at HBO HQ. Anyway, Fort Boise looks at dropping the bomb, 70 years later, and Simple Mind is going nuts.
Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley (R) is cutting off funds for Planned Parenthood under Medicaid, the latest in a string of state moves against the organization.
