Homes were selling fast in the Loma Vista neighborhood in North Spokane in 1950. New schools, including Madison, Adams and Hamilton, were being built. The Spokesman-Review wrote that year that the typical home was selling between $8500 and $12,000. The cost of lots had recently increased more than 100 percent and alleys were being eliminated to increase lot size. New homes were advertised with modern electric stoves and drywall instead of plaster walls. The newspaper article added “The skilled or unskilled worker in Spokane lives as well as his boss did 10 years ago.”
