Arrest made in Thursday night ‘road rage’ drive-by shooting in Northeast Spokane

Spokane Police arrested a man who allegedly shot at a vehicle after a confrontation with another motorist near Gonzaga University on Thursday night.

Christian M. Tiedeman allegedly shot at a vehicle on Sharp Avenue near Standard Street after stopping to exchange words with its driver, according to Spokane Police, who responded to the scene at about 7:30 p.m.

The victim of the shooting, who was uninjured, told police that the confrontation began on North Ruby Street. The assailant, driving a black Nissan Titan with Idaho license plates, allegedly pulled up beside the victim on Sharp Avenue and shot at the car with a black revolver.

Police discovered that a vehicle matching that description had been reported stolen. At about 11:30 p.m., they found it on East South Riverton Avenue and followed it, called for backup, and pulled the driver over near Baldwin Avenue and Morton Street.

The driver, Tiedeman, and his passenger were detained. Officers located a firearm in the vehicle they believe was used in the assault, according to a news release issued Friday by Spokane Police.

Tiedeman was charged with first-degree assault and a drive -by shooting. He was booked into Spokane County Jail early Friday morning and held without bond.

The passenger, who has not been charged in the drive-by shooting, and Tiedeman may face charges related to occupying the stolen vehicle, according to police.
