64-year-old man admits to stealing four guitars from store

A 64-year-old man was arrested earlier this week on suspicion he shoplifted several guitars from a local store during multiple trips in December.

Police say Terry L. Smith then pawned the guitars, and officers recovered some that were still pawn shops, according to a news release.

Smith was booked into Spokane County Jail on Wednesday and admitted to first seeing a guitar on display in December, taking it and walking out of the store with it unconcealed, according to a news release. No one stopped Smith from stealing, so he said he returned to the store three more times and took three additional guitars that month.

A pawn history report confirmed Smith had pawned several guitars around the time of the alleged thefts, according to a news release.

Smith remains in jail on suspicion of shoplifting and three counts of trafficking in stolen property, according to jail records. His bond was set at $1,500.

The state Department of Corrections is also holding Smith in jail in relation to a felony drug possession conviction from February 2019, according to court records.
