Spokane police seek vandals who damaged cars at downtown Toyota dealership

Spokane police are seeking four vandals who caused almost $60,000 in damage at a downtown car dealership parking lot on Monday.

Just before 4 p.m, police received a report that the windows of multiple new vehicles had been damaged at a parking lot on the southwest corner of Third Avenue and Ash Street.

The complainant chased four vandals from the lot, according to a Spokane Police Department statement.

The lot is surrounded by an approximately 7-foot-tall fence “clearly designed to keep people out” and serves to store new Toyota cars and trucks, police said.

The complainant told officers that a few days before, BNSF police had broken up an encampment of homeless people on the far west side of the lot bordering BNSF property.

The complainant told police he believed the vandalism was retaliation for the encampment being removed.

Twelve vehicles were damaged, according to police.

Investigators hope to identify vandals from security camera footage from nearby businesses.

The complainant described two of the vandals to police.

The first was a 30- to 40-year-old white man about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighing 210 pounds, with longer hair and wearing an olive green long-sleeved shirt and jeans.

The second man was described as white or Native American and about the same age and height as the first subject but slightly slimmer. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a white T-shirt with an unkempt beard.
