Dolly Parton’s new song ‘When Life Is Good Again’ pays tribute to front-line workers

At a time of disarray and struggle, Dolly Parton has released a new song, “When Life Is Good Again,” which premiered last week on ew.com, as did the accompanying music video on time.com as Parton took part in Time’s series “Time100 Talks: Finding Hope.

The music video for “When Life Is Good Again” is a visual that reminds of happy memories and inspires listeners to look past this moment of distance and isolation and to the future. Parton also uses the video as a tribute to front-line workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Several health care workers are featured in the video as a symbol of community and how in times of crisis the public joins together to support one another.

“Since our world was forever changed by the COVID-19 virus, I have felt a deep respect and appreciation for all of our front-line responders,” Parton said in a news release. “This video is to pay respect to them and to remind all of us that this, too, shall pass.

“If we pull together as a community, we can rise above and look forward to more beautiful days on the horizon. I hope you love this song as much as I have loved bringing it to you.”

Parton appeared in conversation with Edward Felsenthal, Time’s editor in chief, on “Time100 Talks,” where the singer, actress and pop culture icon discussed public service and why initiatives such as her children’s literacy program, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and her web series, “Goodnight With Dolly,” are so important and close to her heart.

At the conclusion of the interview stream, Parton and Felsenthal premiered the official music video for “When Life Is Good Again,” which is featured on time.com’s homepage.

“Time100 Talks” brings together leading voices to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world. The series will have an upcoming focus on the COVID-19 pandemic, and Angelina Jolie and John Legend have taken part in the series.

During Parton’s popular YouTube series “Goodnight With Dolly,” she reads select Imagination Library books chosen for this moment in time. The 10-week series began April 2 with a reading of “The Little Engine That Could” and ended Thursday.

In a full regalia of sky-high blond wig, gown and faux fur, Parton also took part in last week’s Season 12 finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on VH1 won by Jaiden Essence Hall. While being interviewed by Nina West, Parton quipped, “I’ve been so bored during quarantine that I agreed to appear on this show!”
