Rock slide blocks Highway 95 south of Riggins

A massive rock slide blocked Highway 95 Friday in the Sheep Creek area of Idaho County, about six miles south of Riggins.

The slide measured roughly 120 feet long and 40 feet deep, according to the Idaho Transportation Department, which responded to the slide Friday morning along with the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office.

At 6 p.m. Friday, rocks were still coming down and both lanes were still closed with no detour available, according to the ITD.

Idaho State Police said one alternate route from southwest Idaho to central or north Idaho is I-84 West connecting to Highway 12 or I-90 East at Tri-Cities.
