A 38-year-old man was struck and killed by a semitruck Monday afternoon while trying to walk across Interstate 90 near the Huetter rest area outside Coeur d’Alene.

Joshua C. Brown, of Rathdrum, parked his Chevy S10 pickup truck on the westbound shoulder of I-90 and, “for unknown reasons,” attempted to cross the roadway before he was struck shortly after noon, the Idaho State Police said in a news release.

Brown landed on the side of the freeway, where he died of his injuries, the ISP said. His family was notified, and the incident remained under investigation Monday evening.

The driver of the semitruck, a 64-year-old man from Clarkridge, Arkansas, was cooperating with authorities. The truck was pulling a trailer designed to haul other cars and trucks.

One of the westbound lanes was blocked for two hours as troopers assessed the crash scene, and police briefly closed the westbound on-ramp at Ramsey Road, slowing traffic to a crawl for several miles. All lanes had reopened by 2:30 p.m.
