Gonzaga big man Filip Petrusev one of 10 finalists for Abdul-Jabbar Award
Gonzaga sophomore Filip Petrusev has been named one of 10 candidates for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
Petrusev, a 6-foot-11 post from Serbia, leads Gonzaga at 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He has six double-doubles this season and he ranks third in the WCC in field-goal percentage (57).
Petrusev has averaged 25 points in GU’s last three games.
GU’s Corey Kispert is on the late-season watch list for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award and Killian Tillie is in the final 10 for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award.
Former Gonzaga standout Przemek Karnowski won the Abdul-Jabbar Award in 2017.
The nine other candidates are Duke’s Vernon Carey Jr., Georgetown’s Omer Yurtseven, Iowa’s Luke Garza, Kansas’ Udoka Azubuike, Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu, Ohio State’s Kaleb Wesson, USC’s Onyeka Okongwu, Washington’s Isaiah Stewart and William & Mary’s Nathan Knight.
