Central Valley High student, competitive swimmer in critical condition after Tuesday car crash

Central Valley High School had additional counselors on campus Wednesday following the news that a student was involved in a serious car crash Tuesday evening.

The high school informed families Wednesday morning that Adam England was on life support. Kootenai Medical Center said Wednesday night that England was in critical condition.

England is a competitive swimmer who has raced with the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team and Spokane Area Swimming, according to collegeswimming.com. He placed 35th in the timed finals for the 1,000-yard freestyle at the 2020 Washington Open swim meet in January and is among the top 10 all-time performers in the event for the Coeur d’Alene team. He took first in the 200-meter fly at the Inland Empire Swimming Championships last summer.

Idaho State Police reported a serious injury crash on Interstate 90 in Post Falls on Tuesday just after 6 p.m.

ISP said a juvenile driving a sedan, who they did not confirm to be England, lost control of the vehicle, struck a barrier and stopped on the right side of the road. While outside the vehicle, the juvenile’s car was struck by a Jeep entering the interstate and the juvenile was thrown from the roadway. Another driver who swerved to avoid the collision hit a post.

The juvenile was transported to Kootenai Medical Center.

The road was blocked for more than two hours while the crash was cleared. An investigation is ongoing.
