KYRS Thin Air Community Radio, the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, the Regional Theatre of the Palouse, the Salish School of Spokane, the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum and Spokane Faith and Values were among the 108 cultural organizations in the state that received funding through Humanities Washington.

Humanities Washington distributed $522,000 through a grants program funded by the CARES Act via the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Special attention was given to rural organizations and those that serve people of color. Of the 108 organizations that received funding, nearly half were designated as rural or serving BIPOC communities. Organizations outside King County also received priority.

“The impact of COVID-19 on our communities’ cultural organizations is almost impossible to fathom,” Shelley Saunders, chief resource development officer at Humanities Washington, said in a news release. “But we also know that the sector is resourceful and creative, and it was deeply gratifying to provide support.”
