Deer Park man dies in crash on U.S. 395

A 20-year-old Deer Park man died Monday after a crash on U.S. Highway 395, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Wyatt A. Mays was attempting to cross the highway headed west in a Mazda Protege at Denison-Chattaroy Road when he was struck by a southbound Ford Transit van driven by Troy E. Livingston, 50, of Chewelah. The crash occurred at about 7:45 a.m., according to a news release.

Mays was pronounced dead at the scene. Livingston was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center with injuries. He’d been treated and released as of Tuesday morning.

Both men were wearing seat belts. The crash occurred after Mays failed to yield, WSP reported. Neither driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol, WSP said.
