Spokane Comedy Club offers virtual shows, gauges interest in comedy class

The Spokane Comedy Club is doing all it can during this challenging time of the coronavirus pandemic. The comedy club has set up a Go Fund Me page for its employees and is hosting a pair of virtual shows Saturday and the following Saturday.

Idaho-born comic Dan Cummins will headline the first show. The proceeds will be split between the employees and the club’s charity, No Kid Hungry.

“There will be no profit for us now,” Spokane Comedy Club owner Adam Norwest said while calling from his Tacoma home on Wednesday. “We’ll wait until we open up. Even when we open up, we’ll have social distancing between tables, and employees will wear masks.

“But we’ll see how long we are away from that happening. For now, I just read the news every day, all day, and see if there is anything that might be changing for the better.”

Meanwhile, the comedy club is gauging interest in an online comedy class. Professional comedian and former high school teacher Cory Michaelis has a beginner comedy class curriculum that has been taught to nearly 500 students.

Michaelis is creating an online class that will be taught live over Zoom. The normal class fee is $200-$300, but this will be the same content at $99 because it will not be in person. There also is the potential there will not be a live performance as part of the class.

• July 31-Aug. 1: Bobcat Goldthwait
• Aug. 7-9: Mike Epps
• Sept. 6: The Hodgetwins
• Sept. 10-11: Jason Mewes
• Oct. 1-3: Sarah Colonna
• Dec. 18-19: Andrew Santino
