Idaho State Police arrested a homicide suspect on Highway 97 in North Idaho on Thursday night after Coeur d’Alene police located a body following a report of a shooting.
Police first responded at about 5:30 p.m., after a man reported his vehicle was stolen at gunpoint on the 2900 block of West Fairway Drive, according to a news release.
While searching for the vehicle and the suspect, police received a report of a shooting north of downtown near North 3rd Street and East Roosevelt Avenue, the news release said. The suspect information for that call was similar to the robbery.
At the shooting scene, officers located a deceased male. A second victim had already been transported to Kootenai Health, the news release said.
Soon after, an ISP trooper spotted the vehicle involved in the robbery and the shooting and initiated a pursuit.
ISP took the suspect into custody with minor injuries on Highway 97.
An ISP sergeant also suffered minor injuries, according to a tweet from ISP. Photos showed a patrol car collided with an overturned vehicle.
The North Idaho Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the incident on Highway 97, which runs along the east side of Lake Coeur d’Alene, ISP said.
Coeur d’Alene police detectives are investigating the shooting and robbery in the city, according to a news release.
