Motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 291 north of Spokane

A man was killed early Friday in a motorcycle crash just north of Spokane.

Spokane resident Christopher A. Midwell, 25, was riding north on state Highway 291 “at a high rate” when he crossed into the southbound lane and struck an oncoming car just before 3 a.m. near Parkway Road, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Midwell, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The motorcycle struck a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Spokane Valley resident Thomas D. Strader, 23. He was injured and transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, which reported he was treated and released.

WSP said the crash was caused by reckless driving.
