Duo of Chris Irvin, Logan Jeanselme leads Lake City past Lewis and Clark 45-21
Lake City’s Logan Jeanselme and Chris Irvin put on a show Friday night at Joe Albi Stadium.
Irvin, the junior quarterback, and Jeanselme, a senior receiver, connected four times for touchdowns through the air in the Timberwolves’ 45-21 nonleague victory over the Lewis and Clark Tigers.
Irvin threw for six touchdowns and 284 yards on 15-of-18 passing. Jeanselme had the four touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. He finished with 156 yards receiving and 117 yards rushing.
Uriah Chavez added 99 yards on the ground for Lake City.
The Timberwolves already had a game under their belt – a tough 21-19 loss to Madison last week. Friday was Lewis and Clark’s season opener.
“I really have to give it to (the team) because we had a really tough loss last week,” Lake City head coach Brian Fulp said. “We had two of the best practices all year (this week) and prepared well. We had a game plan coming in and executed it.”
The Timberwolves didn’t waste much time. After punting on its first possession, Lake City recovered an LC fumble on the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage. The Timberwolves needed one play to get in the end zone, a 33-yard touchdown pass from Irvin to Jeanselme.
LC took the lead in the first quarter after a short touchdown drive. The Tigers needed three plays to get on the scoreboard. David Dunlap hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from Jace Parbon, but the lead went away quickly on Lake City’s next possession.
The Timberwolves needed only two plays this time to retake the lead, as Matthew Whitcomb hauled in a 45-yard touchdown reception.
The Tigers tied the game on their ensuing possession, an 11-play drive that started on their 42. Keel Potter ran in from 1 yard out.
But from there, it was all Lake City as the Timberwolves overwhelmed LC on both sides of the ball.
Jeanselme scored his second of the night on a 19-yard touchdown reception. He added a 72-yard touchdown on the ground on Lake City’s next possession. His fourth touchdown of the first half then came on a 7-yard pass from Irvin right before halftime.
Pete Negron got in on the scoring act for Lake City in the third quarter when he brought in a 6-yard reception. Jeanselme’s final touchdown came in the fourth quarter. An LC defender slipped, allowing Jeanselme to get wide open and bring in a 54-yard touchdown pass.
“Logan’s a stud. As he goes, we go, same with Chris (Irvin),” Fulp said. “And LC’s a good team. They’re going to be good this year. It’s a good win against a quality program.”
Parbon added a 63-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Parbon finished 12 of 19 for 146 yards and a passing touchdown. He rushed for 100 yards to lead the team.
