Idaho man arrested after 24-hour pursuit, alleged theft of 2 vehicles
Idaho County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Wednesday who allegedly led law enforcement on a vehicular pursuit across multiple jurisdictions that began a day earlier.
Law enforcement arrested Jackie Shayde Sedillo, 29, of Middleton, Idaho, after pursuing him for nearly 24 hours in relation to an Ada County warrant.
Adams County, Idaho, Sheriff’s deputies were pursuing a stolen Kia Sedona, reportedly driven by a white male in his 20s with dark facial hair, heading north toward Idaho County just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.
Idaho County deputies picked up the pursuit near the Sheep Creek Rest area on U.S. Highway 95 and set up spike strips at milepost 234, according to a news release. The stolen Kia continued over the spike strips with flattened front tires until it rear-ended a patrol vehicle in a line of stopped cars.
The driver, reportedly Sedillo, then exited the Kia and removed an 84-year-old woman from her BMW while he was armed with a gun, according to a new release. The driver led Idaho County deputies down a gravel road at speeds of more than 100 mph.
Spike strips that deputies deployed at Tolo Lake Road and Highway 95 did not disable the vehicle, according to a news release.
Grangeville schools were put on lockdown when the driver made it to the city and turned on to Court Street near near the Grangeville Elementary/Middle School, according a news release.
The suspect abandoned the BMW in Grangeville and stole a Ford F-350 truck with a telescopic boom, according to a news release.
The suspect drove to Day Road and fled on foot into the Cottonwood Creek Canyon area when the truck became disabled due to the back-road terrain, according to a news release.
A Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue plane briefly located the suspect walking down a logging road in the woods, according to a news release.
Idaho County deputies, Adams County deputies, Grangeville police, Idaho State Police officers, Cottonwood police, Lewis County deputies, Fish and Game officers, U.S. Forest Service officers and Nez Perce Tribal Police officers searched for the suspect on foot.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office sent a tactical helicopter to assist with the search, and an Idaho State Police SWAT team secured a perimeter around the area overnight, according to a news release.
Law enforcement found the suspect just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in a canyon off Long Haul Road and arrested Sedillo on an Ada County warrant for failure to appear.
That warrant stemmed from a felony theft and eluding police charge from June, according to court records. Sedillo posted his $50,000 bond on July 19 and did not appear for his arraignment 10 days later.
His new charges in Idaho County include felony theft, robbery, eluding police, aggravated assault, battery and unlawfully possessing a gun as convicted felon, according to court records.
Sedillo was convicted for felony theft in Canyon County in 2018 and felony theft in Ada County in 2015, according to court records.
