Sandpoint resident killed in three-car crash on Highway 2 in Dover

A Sandpoint resident was killed in a three-car crash on U.S. Highway 2 in Dover on Monday afternoon.

Alan A. Ropp, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was caused just before 4:45 p.m. when a Nissan pickup, driven by Carson T. McCormick, 20, of Sandpoint, rear-ended Ropp’s eastbound Mercedes-Benz van, pushing the vehicle into oncoming traffic, the Idaho State Police reported in a news release.

Ropp’s van, also occupied by Lisa M. Ropp, 33, struck a westbound Chevy Tahoe, driven by Raymond M. Arriaga, 60, of Priest River, Idaho, and occupied by Richard S. Taylor, 77, of Priest River, Idaho, according to ISP.

Arriaga, Taylor and Lisa Ropp were transported to Bonner General Health in Sandpoint, according to ISP. McCormick was not transported to the hospital.

Alan Ropp was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, according to a news release. Arriaga, Taylor and McCormick all wore seat belts, ISP said.

Highway 2 was blocked in both directions for about three hours while ISP cleared the scene, according to a news release. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
