Spokane firefighters are crediting quick thinking for preventing additional damage at a Wendy’s restaurant near the Division Street Wye that caught fire Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived to find black smoke billowing from the restaurant at 9114 N. Newport Highway at 4 p.m., according to a news release. Customers and employees had safely evacuated the building when firefighters arrived.

Crews were able to contain the flames to a commercial fryer and ductwork area, according to the news release. The fire caused $50,000 worth of damage, but the Spokane Fire Department said in their news release adherence to emergency plans prevented more extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
