Ugliness in the world

The killings in Christchurch, New Zealand and Sri Lanka show a really ugly world. The same has happened here in America and we can expect more. It seems so easy to hurt and terrorize people we disagree with or who seem to be different from us.

It doesn’t need to be this way. Life will be better for all of us when we try not to be ugly. Instead we can show each other respect — especially when we disagree. Perhaps we want to get rid of Americans who are “other” or disagree with us. It is not likely that we will get such a wish. If winning is more important than doing what we know is right, we will not like the world that results.

We can start by avoiding ugly words and actions ourselves. It may seem like a small challenge but big things always start small. What is more important than doing what we can for those who will inherit the world from us?
