A choice is always lost
Multiple outbreaks of viruses previously thought eradicated have now reared their ugly faces in Washington. This begs the subject of vaccination and its health concerns.
In many third-world countries vaccinations are seen as life-saving rarities, an option only the rich could afford. A comfort that we take for granted in first-world countries. Nowadays in countries like the U.S. an anti-vaccination trend is setting in place. Many see the “anti-vaxxers” as ignorant and want to enforce vaccinations.
As I agree our children should be vaccinated to save them from the grotesque viruses of the past, when are we crossing the line into a human’s personal rights? Does not vaccinating your child take another mother’s choice away by killing her child who is too young for a vaccine, or does the government take away your own choice and make it mandatory?
Either way someone’s choice is being taken away. The question is whether we want to save lives or give them up by taking away the decision of vaccination.
