All-Big Sky women: Idaho guard Mikayla Ferenz, coach Jon Newlee earned top honors

Idaho record-breaking guard Mikayla Ferenz was named the Most Valuable Player of the Big Sky Conference on Monday.
Ferenz, the conference’s all-time leading scorer (2,371 points), led the Vandals to a Big Sky regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big Sky Conference Tournament in Boise.
Her teammate, fellow senior guard Taylor Pierce, was a first-team selection. Idaho gaurd Gina Marxen was named Freshman of the Year.
Jon Newlee was named Coach of the Year for the the Vandals (19-10), who face seventh-seeded Northern Arizona (13-17) on Tuesday.
A trio of Eastern Washington Eagles were also recognized, including senior guard Violet Kapri Morrow (18.2 ppg), who was a second-team selection.
EWU’s Uriah Howard was named Reserve of the Year and freshman wing and Sandpoint product Grace Kirscher was an honorable mention.
The sixth-seeded Eagles (10-19) face No. 11 seed Weber State (6-24) on Monday.
