New US House election in NC to be held on Sept. 10

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina’s elections board has set a Sept. 10 date to fill a congressional seat still vacant after November’s result was tainted by ballot-fraud concerns.

The state board on Monday chose the date for the new election in the 9th congressional district race.

Political parties will hold their primary elections on May 14. The board decided last month that a new election was needed. It did so after hearing evidence that tended to show a political operative working for Republican candidate Mark Harris hired people to collect mail-in ballots. That left votes vulnerable to being changed or discarded.

It’s illegal in North Carolina to have anyone other than a voter or immediate family member handle a ballot.

Democrat Dan McCready is running again in the new election. Harris isn’t.
