Republican fiscal conservatism

The Treasury Department recently reported that the total national debt now stands at $22.01 trillion, up from the $19.95 trillion when President Trump took office in January of 2017, or roughly a 10 percent increase! How do our political leaders plan on reducing this obscene debt that continues to grow?

For some reason, I was under the impression that the Republican Party was the party of fiscal conservatism. Was I misinformed? I, like many economists (of which I am not one), doubt that President Trump’s tax cut targeting the wealthiest in America will help erase this growing debt.
