Parking issue, infill determines vote

I’m against building any structure without off-street parking and it is a make-or-break issue for me when it comes to my vote.

People are going to have cars no matter the wishful thinking of current city planners, council people, developers or freeway engineers. It would be great to live in a Utopian city, but as Seattle’s and Portland’s suburbs explicitly demonstrate, people have one to two cars per residence.

I also feel strongly about willy-nilly infill building. I don’t think builders have a right to ruin an older neighborhood with modern looking designs and no parking. People who have lived here for over 20 years paying property tax and investing (hard-earned money) in their homes deserve to have their property values protected and Spokane deserves its own personality, not Seattle’s or Amsterdam’s or Portland’s.
