Colstrip’s Trey Yates Commits to Bobcats
Colstrip’s Trey Yates announced on Saturday afternoon that he will play college football for Jeff Choate and the Montana State Bobcats in 2020.
The 2020 graduate tweeted out his plans to play on the defensive line for the Bobcats and that he is “Excited to announce that I will continue my academic and athletic career at Montana State University! The legacy continues… #GoCats,” the tweet read.
During his prep career at Colstrip, the 285-pound Colt won the Class B wrestling state championship and helped his team to win its second-straight wrestling team title.
On the gridiron Yates helped lead Colstrip to a state quarterfinals appearance where they lost 37-6 against Big Timber. In fact the Colts have now lost during the second round of the playoffs for the last four years in a row.
If Yates’ name sounds familiar, that’s because it should be. Trey’s older brother Tucker Yates recently graduated from Montana State where he was named a second-team All-Big Sky Conference defensive lineman.
Yates is the first known verbal commitment for the Bobcats class of 2020.
