Story time a great education

Fifty years ago, as a new student at Western Washington University, I came upon a number of tall, beautiful, shapely, extravagantly coiffed, dressed and made-up women strolling in the Viking Union building prior to a beauty pageant. I was dazzled, but then everything about college and being away from Spokane was dazzling!

Later I was chagrined to realize these lovely ladies were drag queens. My parents, Spokane and Ferris High School had not prepared me for this.

Today’s Spokane youth who took advantage of these Drag Queen Story Times (attending, protesting or reading about) could be said to have received a more well-rounded education than myself. Yes?

Thank you Spokane libraries!
