Phony sympathy

I am so sick and tired of hearing about mass gun killings that I’ve reached the point where, if I had artistic talents, I would draw an editorial cartoon depicting Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers standing in front of a makeshift memorial of candles, flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, and a group of grieving family members of some mass shooting victims.

My cartoon would show her saying, “I am so very sorry for your loss. Everyone sends their heartfelt condolences and is praying for you.” Meanwhile, my drawing would also show a Caucasian, middle-aged man in a suit, carrying a briefcase labeled “NRA,” standing behind her, passing her a large wad of cash, while she reaches back behind herself to receive it from him.

As a Christian, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers must surely believe in an eternal judgment at some point based on the choices we make here on Earth during mortality. I wonder if she has given much thought about what her judgment might be if she continues to accept tens of thousands of campaign donation dollars from the NRA instead of standing up for those who continue to die because of senseless gun violence.
