A plan for abortion

I have a plan for making abortion irrelevant. Re: Kathleen Parker’s column asking for a plan how about if columnists like her, the government, politicians and religions stay out of the abortion issue and let women choose how they will manage their reproductive rights?

Ms. Parker’s comments regarding abortion are ridiculous. Taxpayers pay for all medical costs of other people like it or not through insurance plans, Medicare and Medicaid, regardless of the medical problem or procedure. Religious freedom is not jeopardized by abortion; on the contrary, religion should stay out of women’s rights, particularly abortion. As a woman I do not think I should have someone else’s religious beliefs imposed on me.

Ms. Parker’s assertion that abortion is a “primitive, barbaric procedure that is risky, nasty and unequivocally, life-ending” is fallacious and simply not true. Medical experts will tell you that the procedure is safe and in fact much less life-threatening than many pregnancies.

In short, the best plan is to get the government, politicians and religious fanatics out of women’s reproductive lives, stop passing ridiculous legislation which is far more costly to the taxpayers than a simple abortion and recognize that a woman’s right to abortion is protected by the Constitution and is nobody else’s business.
