Shea disqualifies himself

Councilman Mike Fagan and Prosecutor Larry Haskell were both in attendance at the recent Matt Shea event, eagerly and willingly supporting the model of an orthodox Christian utopia. The notion that they were there simply to learn more about the topic is ludicrous.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but contrary to Mr. Shea’s view, advocating for religious rule while serving in American politics is an instant disqualifier.

The proposal for a 51st state is not a new idea and an avid historian like Matt should know that. The Liberty state concept is born from a combination of feudalism and segregation, both systems that subjugate freedom, which is ironic, since Matt purports to be all about freedom. Matt fears ideas, he fears different and he fears the only constant in life, change.

When a state representative seeks to denigrate free expression and squelch freedom of choice, we should all recognize that representative is not fit for public service. The Liberty state proposal is based in deceit, it’s based in ignorance and intolerance. We do not need more walls and borders, we need more collaboration and communication, more compromise and most of all, more trust in one another.
