Losing the human touch

I’ve shopped at the same grocery store for 15 years. It’s nearby; a nice store with friendly people. I’m sad to say they’ve lost my business due to the lack of human checkers. Sunday night there was one human checker and eight people with baskets lined up. I don’t work for Fred Meyers. I also don’t work for Walmart or Home Depot. Last week in Home Depot I was using the little gun to check myself out since it appeared to be the only option. A bored, yawning employee stood nearby watching me work. Didn’t it used to be the other way around?

There’s another grocery store not so convenient to my house. It has no self-checkouts.

I’ll drive the extra mile to patronize this store from now on. I don’t want to check out my own groceries or hardware. I don’t want to place my own order on that germy screen at Costco and McDonald’s. Next they’ll send me into the kitchen to cook it myself. Bring back human workers!
