Respect our national anthem

“The Star-Spangled Banner” honors those who have served and are serving in the military as well as the many who have given their lives for our freedom. They have made many sacrifices for us. One example is baseball player Ted Williams, who is one of the best if not the best hitter of all time. He spent four years of his prime time from baseball being a Marine pilot.

Coaches should do like Buzz Williams of Virginia Tech, who took time to educate his athletes on the national anthem. He said that when the national anthem is being played, he expects each player to stand with their hand over their heart and the other hand behind their back, looking straight ahead and thinking about the sacrifices the veterans have made for the freedom they have. This would be ideal if everyone did it.

I have never seen a person who has served in the military disrespect our flag. Maybe those who don’t respect it should serve some time defending our country. The least we can do is to show our respect for those in the military who have and are making the ultimate sacrifice for us. This is not the time or place to protest or boycott.
