McClain went to West Point

You recently ran a very fine article about Spokane’s own astronaut, Anne McClain (“NASA astronaut Anne McClain of Spokane is a ‘game changer’,” July 7).

Her schooling at Gonzaga Prep and then advanced studies in England were mentioned … but not the fact that, in between, she became a West Point graduate! That’s important to note because many don’t realize that the Army has a very large and highly professional Aviation Branch, which Anne joined right out of West Point. She went to flight school, flew helicopters in combat, and ultimately went on to astronaut training and space exploration, as we know. West Point was her path to advanced degrees and outer space!
