Home fire in Spokane Valley displaces two
A fire that started on the back patio of a Spokane Valley home and spread to the attic displaced two adults Sunday afternoon.
The fire at 13517 E. Heroy Ave. was reported just before 4 p.m. and quickly spread to the attic, said Scott Niebuhr, spokesman for the Spokane Valley Fire Department. The first firefighters on the scene were able to get a hose inside the building and extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes.
Firefighters spent another hour checking the interior of the building and attic for other flames, Niebuhr said.
One dog and a number of cats were also displaced, and the Red Cross was called to assist the homeowners, Niebuhr said.
At least one fire engine remained on the scene as of 6 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
