NBA Summer League: Rui Hachimura scores 14 points in Washington Wizards debut
LAS VEGAS – With the game in his hands, Rui Hachimura delivered in his first game wearing a Washington Wizards jersey.
The former Gonzaga forward, who was selected ninth in last month’s NBA draft, grabbed an important rebound and made a pair of clutch free throws with 2 seconds remaining, leading Washington past New Orleans 84-79 in Summer League action Saturday.
Zion Williamson was on the bench for the Pelicans. The top pick in the draft will miss the rest of the Summer League with a bruised knee.
Hachimura finished with 14 points (6-of-16 shooting), five rebounds and two blocks in a team-high 33 minutes.
Washington plays again Monday against Brooklyn at 2:30 p.m. (NBA TV).
