Spokane Taiko offering hands-on experience during library tour

As the thunder of the drum beats dies away, Johanna Fugitt, left, and Marcia Dukes throw up their hands and give a throaty shout to finish a performance by Spokane Taiko at the South Hill branch of the Spokane Library on July 24, 2013. (Jesse Tinsley / The Spokesman-Review)

You’ve likely seen them performing at various events around the Inland Northwest, but during Spokane Taiko’s library tour, audience members will, as time permits, get a chance to play the drums themselves.

The tour kicks off July 9 with two performances at the Shadle Library.

The ensemble’s library tour will continue on July 10 with two performances at the Indian Trail Library (10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.). Spokane Taiko will perform at the East Side Library on July 16 at 3 p.m., the South Hill Library on July 17 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., and the Hillyard Library on July 25 at 1 p.m.

Children will also get a chance to play the drums when the group performs at the West Central Community Center on July 26 at 10 a.m.
