We must not incarcerate children

I can hardly stand to listen to news about children being held in detention by the United States. What is the measure of our country if we take children from families and lock them up like criminals? Worse than criminals because prisoners have rights to enough food and water! Sen. Cantwell, Sen. Murray and Rep. McMorris Rodgers are mothers, they must imagine someone putting their child or grandchild in a situation like this. How can we bear it? It’s got to stop. This is beyond party, beyond politics. This is about humanity for children, for God’s sake. Stop it!

I urge my elected officials to do whatever they have to do. Make whatever promises they have to make and worry about them later. Just get these children out of detention and somewhere safe! History will note well who stands for the right thing at this horrible time in our country.
