GSL boys: Reece Van Lierop shoots Ferris over Lewis and Clark in ‘Rubber Chicken’ battle

Reece Van Lierop scored 27 points with five 3-pointers and Ferris came back from 11 points down in the first half to top Lewis and Clark 59-48 in the rivalry week battle for the “Rubber Chicken” at the Arena on Thursday.

Ferris (11-5, 6-4) is rated No. 7 in class 4A in the WIAA’s RPI system and is a half-game behind University for the second seed in the Greater Spokane League 4A race.

Kellen Erickson added 15 points with three 3-pointers for the Saxons. Griffin Effenberger led Lewis and Clark (4-11, 1-8) with 15 points.

Effenberger had eight points early – including a pair of 3-pointers –and the Tigers led 12-7 after a sluggish first. LC increased its lead to 11 but late in the second Van Lierop drilled a 3 and hit a twisting layup to finish a 14-4 run and tie it at 24 at halftime.

Erickson hit from beyond the arc twice in the third quarter and Ferris led 40-34 after three.

Van Lierop hit a 3 and three free throws to push the lead to 12 early in the fourth. He hit from long distance again late to maintain a double-digit lead.

North Central 57, Rogers 48: Leon Sayers scored 16 points including three 3-pointers to help the Indians (8-8, 4-4) top the visiting Pirates (4-12, 1-6).

Akeyse Rice had 13 points and Kiernan Knight added 11 for NC, which moved a game and a half ahead of Shadle Park for the second seed in GSL 3A.

Maks Babich led Rogers with 14 points and Gavyn Belthof added 11.
