Women’s basketball notebook: Former Central Valley standouts Lacie Hull, Lexie Hull head to Palouse to take on Washington State

The first time former Central Valley guards Lacie and Lexie Hull returned to the Inland Northwest, Stanford’s twin freshmen were handed a rare loss.

Gonzaga upset the Cardinal 79-73 at the McCarthy Center in December, a game in which Lacie totaled nine points, three assists and three steals in her first collegiate start.

Lexie sat out with a stress reaction in her left foot, an injury that sidelined the former starter six weeks.

Lacie has started for seventh-ranked Stanford (23-4,13-3 Pac-12) since.

The Hulls, who led Central Valley to state and national championships last year, will both likely play Friday when Stanford travels to Washington State (9-18, 4-12).

The Hulls combined for eight points and eight rebounds in a 85-64 rout of the Cougars last month at Stanford.

Last week, Lexie scored a career-high 15 points in a 56-54 win against Arizona and Lacie scored 11 points in a 71-50 win over Arizona State.

Hristova honored in Bulgaria

Washington State forward Borislava Hristova was recently named Bulgaria’s best women’s basketball player abroad by the Bulgarian Federation of Basketball.

Hristova, a Cheryl Miller Award nominee, is averaging 20.8 points per game for the Cougars and ranks third in the Pac-12 in scoring.

She could not attend the award ceremony in Sofia, Bulgaria, but gave a speech via video.

“I want to wish the people in Bulgarian basketball to continue to work hard, pursue and not to give up because I believe there is still hope for the Bulgarian basketball,” she said.

Redmon shines at Nevada

Nevada guard and former Mead standout Jade Redmon was named the Mountain West Conference’s Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Redmon, who started her career at Eastern Washington, averaged 19 points last week in wins over San Diego State and Fresno State.

Redmon is averaging 15.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and three assists for Nevada (10-15, 6-8 Mountain West).

Ferenz honored

Idaho senior guard Mikayla Ferenz has was named College Sports Madness Big Sky Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

Idaho’s all-time leading scorer helped lead the Vandals to wins over Southern Utah and Northern Arizona last week, averaging 24.5 points.

Ferenz is 13 points away from breaking the Big Sky Conference all-time scoring record held by Idaho State’s Natalie Doma (2,296).
