Kaylee Bishop hits 7 3-pointers and Lewis and Clark races past Bellarmine Prep in state regional

It kept raining 3s.

Kaylee Bishop hit seven of them – and three free throws when she was fouled beyond the arc – for 24 points and third-seeded Lewis and Clark raced past sixth-seeded Bellarmine Prep 76-47 in 4A state regional clash at University HS on Saturday.

“That’s kind of just what I do,” Bishop said.

“When she gets open she’s going to knock them down,” LC coach Gabe Medrano said. “It’s nice when we find her and let he get loose a little bit.”

GSL MVP Jacinta Buckley added 16 points with 10 rebounds and Dominique Arquette had 12 with three 3s for the District 8 tourney champ Tigers (21-3).

Ciarra Gatpatan led Bellarmine Prep with 17 points and Julia Bordeaux added 15.

The Lions (20-5) won the South Puget Sound League and was the second seed out of the West Central/Southwest district tournament.

The teams came out running. Jaimyn Sides scored inside off a feed by Sativa Rogers just before the horn and LC lead 17-16 after one.

Bishop hit twice from 3 midway through the second and LC took a 32-26 lead into the break.

“They weren’t really coming out on me that hard so I just catch and shoot,” Bishop said. “When they’re doubling on Jacinta they pass it out and I hit ’em.”

Buckley went 0 for 4 from beyond the arc with four points in the first half.

LC scored the first five points of the third to open an 11-point lead, with Andie Zylak converting a three-point play. Buckley heated up with four baskets, all on jumpers, and LC led 55-38 after three.

”We talked about how (Buckley) needed to be a little more aggressive and then look to attack,” Medrano said. “Give them some fakes and take your shots that are there, and she did a better job in the second half.”

The lead reached 20 midway through the fourth when Bishop was fouled on a 3 and hit all the free throws. Her seventh 3-pointer – her third in the frame – made it 71-44.

Medrano pulled his starters with 1:38 to go.
