Places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Spokane

No plans for New Year’s Eve tonight? Waited until the last-minute? Want something to do that’s chill (no weather pun intended)? Or maybe the overnight snowfall has you rethinking the evening?

Here’s a list of possibilities by Azaria Podplesky and Greg Wildermuth that has previously run in The Spokesman-Review:

New Year’s Eve Fireworks at Riverfront - 8 p.m.-midnight, Riverfront Park, 507 N. Howard St. The countdown Pavilion light show is 8-9 p.m., fireworks are 9-9:15 p.m., and the countdown Pavilion light show repeats from 11 p.m.-midnight. (509) 625-6600 and riverfrontspokane.org. Admission: FREE

Swingin’ in the New Year: Back to the ’20s - 8 p.m., Bridge Press Cellars, 39 W. Pacific Ave. Ring in the New Year and support the Victoria Siegel Foundation at the same time by celebrating at Swingin’ in the New Year: Back to the ’20s at Bridge Press Cellars. The Victoria Siegel Foundation’s mission is “saving lives so we don’t lose our future generation to drug abuse and addiction.” The foundation also is a For America Pageant partner. The gala will feature live music, a ball drop, food, wine, dancing, games, champagne, magic, Miss Spokane Amanda Markley and dancing with LiteFeet. Attendees are encouraged to wear ’20s costumes. Beethoven’s Ninth - 7:30 p.m., Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave. Eckart Preu established the Spokane Symphony’s New Year’s Eve tradition 11 years ago of performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. This year, Morihiko Nakahara will lead the symphony and the Spokane Symphony Chorale, featuring soprano Amy Porter, mezzo-soprano Patti Mortier, tenor Stephen Rumph and baritone Charles Robert Stephens. Puttin’ on the Ritz - 9 p.m., Historic Davenport Hotel, Hall of Doges and Grand Pennington Ballroom, 10 S. Post St. Another New Year’s tradition for the symphony is Puttin’ on the Ritz, a fundraiser presented by the Spokane Symphony Associates. Attendees in their best black tie or dressy cocktail attire will walk the paparazzi-lined red carpet escorted by gentlemen in tails, then enjoy a three-course dinner, plus salad and dinner. There also will be three no-host bars. MasterClass Big Band will perform, as will Elvis Presley tribute artist Ben Klein and illusionist Taylor Kyle. New Year’s Eve with Sammy Eubanks - 6 p.m., the Bing Crosby Theater, 901 W. Sprague Ave. Local bluesman Sammy Eubanks headlines a New Year’s Eve Pre-Funk Party. Low Class Bluegrass and Trailer Park Girls also will perform. This performance will close out a big year for Eubanks, who in January took second place in the 35th International Blues Challenge with his band the Work’in Class. New Year’s Eve Rockin’ Ballroom Bash - 9:30 p.m., Max at Mirabeau, 1100 N. Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley. Join the Bobby Patterson Band, the 2018 Inland Empire Blues Society’s best blues band. Tickets include reserved seating, table service, a complimentary antipasto platter, party favors, live music, dancing, a champagne toast and free access to the ballroom party entrance. Roaring ’20s New Year’s Eve Party - 7:30 p.m., the Big Dipper, 171 S. Washington St. Celebrate the New Year at the Big Dipper with live music by Random Generation and GS3. There will be a no-host bar and champagne for all at midnight. Available through Brown Paper Tickets. Admission: $15

Return of the Roaring ’20s - 9 p.m., Boombox Pizza, 221 N. Division St. Ring in the Roaring ’20s with a champagne toast, balloon drop, DJ, dancing and drinks at Boombox Pizza. Admission: FREE

Ella’s Secret New Year’s Eve Party - 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., the Montvale Event Center, 1019 W. First Ave. Ella’s is hosting not one, but two New Year’s Eve parties at the Montvale Event Center. The East Coast party begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes a toast at 9 p.m. This party features a prime rib dinner buffet (steelhead and vegetarian options available), live music from Elvis Presley tribute artist Ben Klein, prize giveaways and a dance performance. The West Coast party begins at 8:30 p.m. and features a toast at midnight. There will be a dessert buffet, live music from the Zonky Jazz Band, prize giveaways, dance lessons from Strictly Swing Spokane, a Charleston contest and a dance performance. There will be a no-host bar at both parties for those ages 21 and older. Available through secretnewyear.com. Admission: $50 West Coast Party, $85 East Coast Party, $105 both parties

Joya-E New Year’s Service: ‘Bell of the Last Night’ - 7 p.m., Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St. At this short, family-friendly service, attendees are invited to ring the Spokane Buddhist Temple’s Kansho Bell one of 108 times to symbolically ring out the 108 delusions of woman and man and ring in aspirations to overcome ignorance, greed and anger in 2020. ’80s New Year’s Eve - 9 p.m., Lucky You Lounge, 1801 W. Sunset Blvd. Lucky You Lounge is taking the ’80s route for its New Year’s Eve party. The event features an ’80s cover band, a DJ and a photo booth. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best ’80s attire. Available through Eventbrite. Admission: $10

nYne Bar and Bistro’s Roaring ’20s New Year’s Eve Party - 7 p.m. Tuesday; nYne Bar and Bistro, 232 W. Sprague Ave. Stop by nYne Bar and Bistro for its 10th Annual New Year’s Eve party. The event features DJ C-Mad, a $1,500 balloon drop and a champagne toast. If the party is sold out, guests can enter nYne with a $5 cover after the balloon drop. Available through Brown Paper Tickets. Admission: $20

New Year’s Eve ’80s Party - 6 p.m., NYC Restaurant and Piano Bar, 313 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene. NYC Restaurant and Piano Bar is taking it back to the ’80s during its New Year’s Eve party. The event poster advises attendees to wear spandex and leg warmers. There will be soul, Motown, rock and pop music from the ’80s, plus dueling pianos, a buffet dinner and door prizes. There also will be two champagne toasts – 9 p.m. and midnight. Call (208) 930-1504 to reserve tickets. Admission: $45 advance; $49 at the door.

Hive New Year’s Eve Ball featuring Collectivity - 9 p.m., the Hive, 207 N. First Ave., Sandpoint. The Hive’s New Year’s Eve Ball features music from Collectivity, a jazz/funk/psychedelic/soul band formed in Shanghai and now based in San Francisco. Available through Eventbrite. Admission: $25, $35 VIP

Bellwether Brewing (2019 N. Monroe St.) will be open from 3 p.m.-midnight and throwing a 1920s-themed party. Anyone who dresses up in Roaring ’20s attire will enjoy Happy Hour pricing all day.

Humble Abode Brewing (1620 E. Houston Ave.) is hosting a five-course beer dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at the brewery. Stick around afterward to enjoy more beer and ring in the New Year. Open until 1 a.m.

The Steel Barrel (154 S. Madison St.) is celebrating from 6 p.m.-1 a.m. with deals on food and beer, including a special Taco Tuesday.

Riverbank Taphouse (100 N. Hayford Road, Airway Heights) at Northern Quest Casino also is throwing a 1920s party to celebrate the turning of the calendar. The event from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. is sponsored by Seattle’s Fremont Brewing and will include beer specials, live music, party favors and a champagne toast at midnight. There is a $5 cover, which is waived for anyone who dresses in 1920s attire.

The following places will be celebrating East Coast New Year’s Eve at 9 p.m. for those people who either want to get a jump on the festivities or get to bed at a reasonable hour.

Iron Goat Brewing (1302 W. Second Ave.) is hosting a family-friendly event with board games from 5-10 p.m.

Badass Backyard Brewing (1415 N. Argonne Road, Spokane Valley) plays host from 7-9 p.m., with a Champagne toast at 9 p.m.

Matchwood Brewing (513 Oak St., Sandpoint) is featuring beer specials, a “mocktail” bar for the kids and an indoor ball drop from 5-9:30 p.m.

Be safe – and Happy New Year!
