Washington State quarterback Anthony Gordon completes first 15 passes against New Mexico State

PULLMAN – Anthony Gordon stepped into the starting role and immediately found his way into the Washington State passing record book.

The redshirt senior, in his first career start, threw for 330 yards before halftime against New Mexico State on Saturday, the third-most by a Cougars quarterback in the first half of a game. Only Connor Halliday (337 against California in 2014) and Luke Falk (335 at Arizona in 2015) threw for more.

Gordon also started the game 15-of-15 passing before Brandon Arconado dropped a pass in traffic late in the second quarter for Gordon’s first incompletion of the game. Falk holds the program record for consecutive completions with 21. That came in Washington State’s 69-7 thrashing of Arizona in 2016.

Gordon finished the half with four touchdown passes, completing 22 of 23 pass attempts (96%). The school’s single-game record for completion percentage is held by Falk, who hit on 91.4% of his passes in that 2016 game against Arizona.

Gordon also completed passes to nine receivers in the half.
