What’s Hoppin’ This Week: Whistle Punk Brewing hosts fundraiser for Dan Marlow, ALS

Thursday, Aug. 29

Whistle Punk Brewing (122 S. Monroe, Spokane) is releasing its Ales for ALS beer and hosting a fundraiser to benefit local resident Dan Marlow from 4-9 p.m. Marlow, whose story was recently covered by The Spokesman-Review, was diagnosed with ALS 16 months ago, and $1 from every beer sold will be donated to him and his family as they continue to flight this disease. Additionally, another $1 from each beer sale will be donated to ALS research efforts at the ALS Therapy Institute. There will be an auction and several other ways to donate to this wonderful cause throughout the night.

MickDuff’s Brewing in Sandpoint (220 Cedar St.) is hosting a “Yappy Hour” from 4-7 p.m. to benefit the Panhandle Animal Shelter. There will be beer, live music and a raffle, with proceeds going to support the work at the shelter.

Friday, Aug. 30

Schweitzer Mountain is throwing its annual Fall Fest starting Friday at 4 p.m. and running all weekend long. Several local and regional breweries will be on hand serving up samples, along with cider, wine, food, music and lots of other fun. The chairlifts also will be running for mountain biking, hiking or sightseeing. Tickets are available on the Schweitzer Mountain website schweitzer.com.

Hayden’s newest brewing venture, Vandal Brewing Co., is releasing its first beer with an event hosted by the Filling Station on 5th in Coeur d’Alene (501 Sherman Ave.) from 7-9 p.m. The beer is described as a “golden pale ale” made with Mosaic and Meridian Hops. A portion of proceeds from this beer will be donated to University of Idaho scholarship funds.

Saturday, Aug. 31

Northwest Spokane’s Happy Trails to Brews (9025 N. Indian Trail Road) is partnering with Path of Hope Rescue for a fundraiser from 4-8 p.m. to support the work the organization does in rescuing pregnant dogs and puppies.

Sunday, Sept. 1

Riverbank Taphouse inside Northern Quest Casino (100 N. Hayford Road, Airway Heights) is getting a jump on fresh hop season by bringing in limited-release fresh hop beers from regional breweries and putting together a large display of hops for guests to see and feel. The event starts at 3 p.m.
