Man arrested after allegedly burglarizing Corbin Park residence Saturday night while residents were home

From staff reports

Shortly after hearing a knock at the door Saturday night, a woman and her child came face-to-face with a man attempting to burglarize their home in the Corbin Park neighborhood, Spokane police say.

After the woman said she was calling the police, Stephen R. Brown, 37, allegedly fled the north Spokane residence and was later arrested on a residential burglary charge, according to a news release.

The woman gave a detailed description of the man to police, who then set up a perimeter around the area, according to the news release. When an officer contacted Brown south of Corbin Park, he took off running and was soon apprehended.

Police believe Brown was the person who allegedly broke into the home. The woman said she found the screen pried off of an open window after searching her home.

Brown was booked into Spokane County Jail at about 8 p.m. Saturday. He also had an active felony warrant for another burglary charge and was in possession of methamphetamine, according to police.

Brown has been convicted of crimes including possession of a controlled substance, burglary, theft, vehicle prowling and DUI hit-and-run, police said.
