Protect your data
I just watched the documentary “The Great Hack,” and it reveals some of my worst fears about the future of our democracy and how easily our political behavior can be influenced.
The data we so willingly give away through our interactions on websites like Facebook, Google or Amazon is being sold to some of the most influential people and organizations in the world.
The most revealing and frightening part of the Mueller testimony was his emphasis on the fact that foreign countries are actively attacking our elections. These countries will strategically use our favorite websites to target our political beliefs.
Being able to face this fact means being able to face our own weaknesses. We must question our own political beliefs, and determine for ourselves, what do I truly believe and what have I been told to believe?
We must protect our data. Change to a web browser that doesn’t sell your private data (Ecosia, Duck Duck Go). Disable the data-sharing options you can on Facebook, or even consider breaking up with the platform entirely. Our legislators don’t understand the damage this is doing to our country, and until they act to fix it, we must.
