Dante Olson Named to Buck Buchanan Watch List

Vince Bagby SWX
Dante Olson continues to rake in the preseason honors and the senior Griz linebacker nabbed another one on Thursday. Olson was named to the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List, an honor given annually to the top defensive player of the year in FCS football. Olson was the only Big Sky Conference player to make the 25-man list. This is now the seventh preseason accolade for Olson following his record breaking junior season in which he recorded 151 tackles to set a new Grizzly program record. His average of 13.7 tackles per game was the highest in the country for both FCS and FBS football last season. Two Grizzlies have ever won the Buchanan Award after Kroy Bierman took home the honor in 2007 and Tyrone Holmes followed suit in 2015. Olson finished as a top three finalist for the Buck Buchanan award last year. Time will tell if the Medford, Oregon product can take home the top FCS defensive honor in 2019.
