North Cascades Highway opens Thursday
The scenic North Cascades Highway will open at 9 a.m., Thursday.
In a tweet the Washington State Department of Transportation announced the opening, Monday. This is the earliest opening since 2015.
State Route 20 is not plowed during the winter. It is the northernmost route through the Cascades and is part of the 400-mile Cascade Loop. For climbers, skiers, hikers and other recreationists the highway’s opening means easier access to Washington Pass and other mountain playgrounds.
