Oregon rallies past Gonzaga with three-run ninth

Tanner Smith hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning and the Oregon Ducks rallied from a four-run deficit over the final two innings to beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs 7-6 in nonconference baseball action on Monday at Patterson Sports Complex.

Jonny DeLuca hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to pull the Ducks (22-13) within 6-4.

Gonzaga trailed 2-1 before pushing across four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Austin Pinorini homered to lead off the inning. Brett Harris doubled and scored on Nick Nyquist’s home run. Josh Bristyan followed with a triple, scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Slade Heggen to put the Bulldogs (17-15) up 5-2.

Gonzaga tacked on another run in the seventh on Guthrie Morrison’s RBI double. Taylor Davis (2-1) was tagged with the loss.

The Bulldogs next travel to Santa Clara for a three-game West Coast Conference series beginning Thursday.
